Elk, Kings mountains: Both trails cover major vertical rises in a short distance. You can also see the Olympics far to the north on clear days. However, they do no prohibit access and it is unclear just what effect a hiker might have. There are some really cool features of this mountain including the summits and a large basalt dike which looks like an ancient wall of some huge stone building running up into the mountain.
Saddle Mountain is the highest point in the northern half of the Coast Range with sweeping degree from a 3,foot summit that look out over the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River, and inland toward the Cascade Range. The trail peters out, but by now, you have the summit in view, so navigation is very easy.
We had a cute side yard set up that felt surprisingly private given there were other houses on the lot. Please keep safety and private land in mind.
